League Winners!   02/03/2022, Wyncote Sports Grounds:   Today’s game was crucial. UOLFC men’s 1 st team needed a win on order to win the league (a draw or loss would not have been enough). UOLFC won by the smallest of margins: 1-0, to win the league. It was a game of two halves, with a first half which was quite closed with not many clear chances for either team and big chance for UOLFC   in the second half. It was also a physical game with both teams being aggressive in challenges as they both had something to fight for. John Moore’s were fighting to stay up and University of Liverpool were fighting for the league title and promotion.   1 st Half:   Both teams had a lot to play for and the two UOLFC centre backs made sure to establish dominance from the get-go in the first minute with two consecutive solid clearances. The first moment of danger for UOLFC came in the 2 nd minute when Toby Cogswell pressed the John Moores keeper after a John...

Having lost earlier in the season against the same team UOLFC were highly determined to avenge this loss and further their chances of additional silverware this season. The first game earlier this season saw UOL lose 4-2 with Lancaster applying a very high press early in the game. Added injuries and key players being unavailable in the first game were some of the mitigating factors in the first game that weren’t an issue today which gave Coach Jack Edwards more optimism before the game. 1 st Half: Louis Jarvis got the first real chance of the game in the 4 th minute. Liverpool looked much more composed on the ball than Lancaster in the early game. Liverpool got the better phases o...

UOL Men's 1st draw 1-1 vs Edge Hill Away

Image
26/01/2021, Edge Hill University Sports Centre:   UOLFC were back in action today after a well-earned Christmas break. The boys took on Edge Hill for the second time this season. After having won 4-1 in the first fixture, UOLFC were hoping to repeat this performance today, but it wasn’t to be in the end and UOLFC had to settle for a 1-1 draw.   First half: Like the first game, Edge Hill was very aggressive throughout the whole game. As shown by a terrible challenge on Theo Hayford in the 3 rd minute which should’ve been a red, but the referee decided to go with a yellow card. ⚽ This excess aggressivity paid off for edge hill just a minute after when they committed four men to their frontline to challenge the Liverpool defenders. Edge Hill kept pressing and played a long ball into one of their strikers and subsequently scored in the 4 th minute. 1-0   to Edge Hill. The first 25 minutes of the game were marked by a very high level of intensity by both...

University of Liverpool Men’s 1st 6 points clear at the top of the table.

Image
01/12/2021, Wyncote Sports grounds:   It was a cold afternoon today at Wyncote where UoL’s first team took on Edgehill University. Before the match Edgehill were second in the league and UOLFC first in the league, with a three-point lead. Today’s win meant that UOLFC solidified their first position with a six-point lead over Salford (2 nd ), Edge Hill (3 rd ) and Chester (4 th ).   First half: Edge Hill started the game with intensity and remained aggressive throughout the game. However, this aggressivity was exercise at times which led Edge Hill to receive multiple bookings and one sending-off later in the game. This aggressivity started early in the game when in the 12 th minute, Theo Hayford got fouled right on the edge of Edge Hill’s box after UOLFC intercepted a sloppy pass from Edge Hill. Edge Hill was well organised in set pieces as highlighted by a corner in the 16 th minute where they implemented a combination, they had obviously worked on in trai...

10/11/2021, Platt Lane Sports Complex: The UOLFC squad travelled to Manchester to take on Manchester Metropolitan University (MMU) for their first game in the Men’s Northern Conference Cup. UOLFC came away with a 2-1 victory after a laborious game in some parts against a well organized and hardworking MMU team. Goals by James Harper and Louis Jarvis secured the win for UOLFC.   First half: Both teams started the game with equal intensity and similar intentions on the ball. UOLFC and MMU were looking to play out from the back as well as sprinkling in a few long balls in the channels. MMU created the first dangerous chance after a low corner kick went through UOLFC’s entire box untouched, the cross would’ve only required a light touch to go in, but the MMU players weren’t able to get a touch on it. The only goal in the first half came through James Harper in the 13 th minute when he received the ball following a clearance by Dan Heald. J...
