17/11/2021, Wyncote Sports grounds:

After having already beaten Chester in the away fixture, UOLFC were looking to repeat the outcome at home and establish themselves as a dominant force in the league. University of Liverpool Men’s 1st did win their home confrontation against Chester today which placed them first in the league with 3 points clear.

It was Wins all round for the four UOLFC teams who were in action today. The fourth team beat Liverpool John Moore’s 3-1. The third team annihilated Chester’s third team 8-0. The second team beat Lancaster’s second team 1-0 and the first team topped off the day in style by beating Chester’s first team 4-2 in front of a large home crowd.

First half:

UOLFC started the first half strong with multiple opportunities to score in the first five minutes. Louis Jarvis made the first significant burst in the first minute. Just seconds later Tim Davidson hit the crossbar after Chester cleared a cross straight to Tim’s feet.

UOLFC’s efforts would be rewarded shortly after, but from a set piece this time. The Chester defender committed a handball in the box giving away a penalty to UOLFC. Dan Lewis stepped up to take the penalty and shot the ball with composure into the bottom left of the goal.

1-0   to UOLFC

In the first half UOLFC pressed intelligently on the ball and found the right balance between applying pressure on the ball and maintaining a good defensive shape.

Chester scored a superb goal in the 17th minute when their player struck the ball with a clean powerful shot from the edge of the box leaving Gillespie with no chance to save the ball.

1-1

Chester’s main threat came from throw ins, corners and long balls directed towards their number 9 who showed some good technique to control long balls coming his way, but he was closely monitored by Dan Heald who was today’s man of the match.

In the 26th minute Joe Ctori made a forward run from deep; Dan Heald picked a perfectly accurate pass towards Joe who subsequently crossed the ball to Rio Gill. Rio took a shot which went wide.

In the 32nd minute Louis Jarvis scored after a good cross from Dan Lewis on the right side.

2-1 to UOLFC

After the second goal, the momentum completely shifted in UOLFC’s favour with Rio Gill and Theo Hayford finding more opportunities to shoot.

Second half:

The second half also started strong for UOLFC; Rio Gill hit the crossbar after a good cross from Dan Lewis in the 46th minute.

Just seconds later Louis Jarvis scored his second goal of the day after a sublime pass by Franki Pashias who showed great vision. Franki read the play before everyone and made a quick one-touch pass to louis to provide an assist that would make Busquets proud.

Dan Lewis grew stronger into the game as more space opened-up and linked up well with his attacking partner Rio Gill.

UOLFC went through bursts of showing great football by getting the ball out under pressure with great confidence, accuracy and skill to transition into attack positions, but they struggled to do this consistently throughout the game.

Late in the second half Chester started pushing for a goal and left more space in midfield, it was 2v1 in midfield at times for UOLFC with Theo Hayford and Tim Davidson against one Chester player.

In the 71st minute Toby Cogswell came on for Franki Pashias, in the 74th minute James Harper came on for Rio Gill and in the 81st minute Matt Molyneux came on for Theo Hayford.

Chester reduced the mark in the 84th minute after scoring despite a clear foul on UOLFC player Tim Davidson in the play leading up to the goal.

3-2 UOLFC

Joe Ctori scored the final goal of the game in the 87th minute to seal the victory for UOLFC after another great assist, this time, by Luca Katchburian.

UOLFC were very organised defensively without the ball and held a good shape. They showed some good football to get out of pressure but found it difficult to do it consistently.

Overall, UOLFC just generated to much attacking danger when compared to Chester and deserved the win today.

UOLFC are back in action next week away against York in the Cup.
